His main focus is to transition the over 75-year-old company to best take advantage of new technologies and business practices to provide the best quality music licensing services to its affiliate publishers and music distribution clients in the changing music marketplace. With over twenty years in banking and management, Churgin’s expertise in e-commerce, sales, operations, administration, and change management uniquely qualify him for this challenge.Established in 1927 by the National Music Publishers Association (NMPA), HFA represents over 27,000 U.S. music publishers for their mechanical and digital licensing needs, issuing licenses and collecting and distributing royalties. HFA also provides collection and monitoring services to its U.S. publisher clients for music distributed and sold in over 75 territories around the world. Churgin was recruited for the President and CEO position after a decision to separate the HFA and NMPA after 15 years of combined operations.Churgin came to HFA from Citibank, where he was the Director of Electronic Bill Presentment and Payment at Citibank’s e-Business. Prior to that, Churgin held the position of Vice President of Citibank’s Global Risk Reporting system. His career at Citibank also included Legal and Regulatory Compliance, Risk Management, Regional Services Management, and Chief of Staff. Before joining Citibank, Churgin was Vice President and Director of Information Systems at Edward S. Gordon Company.
